Alex Eala may skip SEA Games due to tight sked

Tennis princess Alex Eala is likely to miss the coming SEA Games in the Cambodia this May as she bids to qualify for the French Open – the second Grand Slam event of the year.

Winner of three bronze medals in the Vietnam SEA Games two years ago, Eala said the biennial event may run into a scheduling conflict with a qualifying tournament of the French Open although she is eager to represent the country once again.

“I would love to represent the Philippines again in the SEA Games. But from what I know, it might interfere with the [qualifiers] of the French Open, and the preparations prior,” said Eala during Tuesday’s press conference.

However, she plans to meet her team and ask them if it is possible to include the coming SEA Games to her schedule.

She won her bronze medals in singles, mixed doubles and team event.

Eala is also uncertain whether she can compete in the Asian Games in China this September due to her tight schedule.

“I would love to join the Asian Games, I’ve never competed in that yet. I’ve heard very good stories and very good experiences from other players. But again, we have to check if it collides with any of the important tournaments that I plan to join this year,” she said.
