POCO is equipped with a Samsung AMOLED screen in the mid-range, will the price far exceed expectations?

Recently, POCO began to warm up its new POCO X5 5G series. As the cost-effective ceiling phone every year, I have always had a good impression of POCO X Series, not only because of its attractive price but also because for each generation of models, POCO has many configurations that are rare at the same level, such as the 120Hz Samsung AMOLED screen on the POCO X5 5G this time.

Although Samsung’s AMOLED screen has been popular for many years, it has always been exclusive to high-end flagships due to the high price. What are the advantages of Samsung AMOLED screen compared to traditional LCD screen? How does the 120Hz Samsung AMOLED screen on POCO X5 5G perform? As a mid-range gatekeeper, can POCO X5 5G defend its gatekeeper status?

AMOLED screen, inherently better looking?

Being able to compete with other screens and become the standard configuration of high-end models, Samsung AMOLED screens naturally have many exclusive advantages, which are determined by their different construction principles.

The traditional LCD screen is called Liquid Crystal Display screen. Its construction principle is to place a liquid crystal box between two parallel glass substrates, set a TFT (thin film transistor) on the lower substrate glass, and set a color filter on the upper substrate glass. Through the TFT the signal and voltage on the LCD are changed to control the rotation direction of the liquid crystal molecules, so as to control whether the polarized light of each pixel is emitted to display images.

The OLED screen represented by AMOLED is also called Organic Light-Emitting Diode. OLED is a current-type organic light-emitting device, which is a phenomenon of luminescence caused by the injection and recombination of carriers, and the luminous intensity is proportional to the injected current. Under the action of an electric field in the OLED, the holes generated by the anode and the electrons generated by the cathode will move, inject into the hole transport layer and the electron transport layer respectively, and migrate to the light emitting layer. When the two meet in the light-emitting layer, energy excitons are generated, which excite light-emitting molecules and finally produce visible light.

Different structures bring different display effects. Judging from the contrast parameters that determine the display effect of the screen, AMOLED screens are almost better than LCD screens. Because LCD has a backlight layer, it is not pure black when it displays black, but a faint light shines through, and it is difficult to improve its contrast. The AMOLED screen can turn off some pixels in the black area, and its contrast ratio exceeds 100,000:1, which is more than 100 times that of ordinary LCD screens. In actual use, the AMOLED screen of POCO X5 5G has excellent light and shade details, whether it is the daily use of mobile phones, or watching movies and TV series.

The characteristic of self-illumination also brings the advantages of a wide color gamut to AMOLED screen, which can make the screen display more brilliant and diverse and can restore more colors in real life. The obvious feeling is that for the same picture/video, the AMOLED screen display effect of POCO X5 5G will be more vivid, brighter, and more transparent than the LCD screen model.

120Hz high refresh rate, boosting high-speed response

In addition, AMOLED screens are also better than LCD screens in terms of response speed. Especially in low-temperature environments, LCD screen mobile phones usually experience an obvious “smear phenomenon”, while AMOLED screens will not. This is because the liquid crystal material is very sensitive to the temperature of the environment. The lower the temperature, the slower the flipping speed of the liquid crystal molecules, which means that the response time of the screen becomes longer, and this situation hardly exists in an AMOLED screen, which is used in the POCO X5 5G.

And because the AMOLED screen of POCO X5 5G also has an ultra-high refresh rate of 120Hz, its response speed and fluency are better, especially when swiping information streaming software such as Twitter and Facebook, it is almost no smear, and very smooth!

For game lovers, the response speed of the screen is even a matter of victory or defeat when playing competitive games like FreeFire. When using POCO X5 5G to play games, its high refresh rate of 120Hz and the high-speed response of the AMOLED screen can help you operate one step faster in the blink of an eye on the battlefield.

Lighter, thinner, feeling upgraded

As mentioned earlier, the construction principles of LCD and AMOLED screens are different, which also makes their weight and thickness different: because LCD has a backlight layer and a liquid crystal layer, it will be heavier and thicker than AMOLED screens, which is also the reason why mobile phones with LCD screens are usually not as thin and light as AMOLED screen phones.

Large battery and power-saving screen, bringing you long use time

Many people don’t know that AMOLED screens not only have better display effects but also save more power at the same time! Since each pixel works independently, the brightness of each pixel can be adjusted according to the demand when working. When displaying part of the black image, the pixel can be directly turned off, so as to achieve the effect of power saving. In contrast to the LCD screen, its light-emitting principle determines that no matter what kind of image is displayed, it is always in the state of full backlight, so under normal conditions, the AMOLED screen will save more power than the LCD screen.

Good performance, stable and smooth experience

Performance is not the highlight of POCO X5 5G, but its performance configuration does not disappoint. In terms of processor, POCO X5 5G uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chip, its performance should not be underestimated.

From my own test, in the large-scale game Free Fire, even if the ultra-high image quality is turned on, POCO X5 5G can still stabilize at around 59-60FPS, which shows that its performance is extraordinary. The game is so smooth, and there is also no problem with daily use. Whether it is using a large APP or watching a 4K video, it is smooth and stable without any stuttering. After all, the AnTuTu score of this chip has reached about 400K, surpassing most of the Snapdragon 700 series chips, and easily ranking first in the Snapdragon 600 series.

In terms of multi-tasking operation, POCO X5 5G brings memory expansion 3.0 technology, which can expand the original onboard 6/8GB RAM to 11/13GB and can run multiple apps smoothly at the same time. 128/256GB ROM can also guarantee enough storage space for downloading various content or APP.

The cheapest 120Hz AMOLED, mid-range cost-effective ceiling

As a phone that focuses on entertainment, POCO X5 5G is extremely cost-effective. Whether it is this 120Hz Samsung AMOLED screen, thin and light body, long-lasting battery life, or stable and smooth experience, POCO X5 5G is very suitable for its Slogan: Everything. Just right. Just don’t know if its price is right?

Referring to the prices of other phones with the same configuration, such a configuration costs at least US$350, but considering POCO’s consistently high-cost performance, the price of POCO X5 5G this time may be lower than US$300! At that time, POCO X5 5G will become the mid-range cost-effective ceiling in 2023, and it will also become the cheapest 120Hz AMOLED screen phone.

Finally, what else do you expect from POCO X5 5G? How much do you think the pricing of POCO X5 5G is appropriate? Have you ever used a POCO phone, how do you feel?
