Former MMA Fighter Arrested Due to Illegal Drugs in Cebu City

Police authorities arrested a former Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter after being caught with illegal drugs in Cebu City.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives seized some P3.4 million worth of shabu following the arrest of a former professional mixed martial artist on Saturday, Dec. 3, in Cebu City. The drug suspect was identified as Slotty Avila, 34, based on the report.

After a search was conducted at his common-law partner’s home on Sunset Drive in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, where he also resides, the arrest was made. According to PDEA, Avila received the search warrant at roughly 5 a.m. at his residence.

Levi Ortiz, director of PDEA-7, ordered the search, which was conducted in accordance with a warrant granted on December 2 by a judge of the regional trial court in Cebu City. Based on the report, a half kg of shabu recovered by the PDEA team and the Naval Forces Central was packaged in 25 packs.

The authorities also seized three digital weighing scales, various plastic packaging from online retailers and delivery services, three empty tea bags, numerous money transfer receipts, and various illicit drug paraphernalia in addition to the illegal substances.

Levi Ortiz, director of PDEA, said that Avila hid the illegal medicines in the plastic packaging used by delivery services and online retailers. Avila is accused of breaking the Republic Act (RA) 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, Sections 11 and 12 and Article II.
