2 Public Drivers Test Positive for Illegal Drugs in PDEA’s Drug Testing

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted a surprise drug test on public drivers in Laguna where two of them test positive.

In a surprise drug test conducted at a bus terminal in Sta Rosa, Laguna, two out of the 106 bus and tricycle drivers tested positive for the usage of illegal narcotics, according to the PDEA. On November 3, the PDEA conducted “OPLAN HARABAS” to identify which public utility vehicle (PUV) crews were driving while under the influence of illegal narcotics.

The test was carried out in conjunction with the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the municipal government of Sta Rosa. The two drivers who tested positive for illegal drugs during the screening test have not been identified by the authorities.

Given that majority of the PUV drivers at the port are locals of the province’s bordering towns and outlying areas, the PDEA declared that the two drivers will be recommended to their respective LGUs for appropriate assistance if the confirmatory test is positive for illegal narcotics, based on the report.

Barangay Quirino-2-C village security chief Rocky Naquila, who was at the terminal during the surprise drug test, strongly pushed for similar ‘anti-illegal drug activities’ to tricycle drivers. He said, he is humbled by the PDEA to conduct many surprise drug tests for tricycle drivers, some of whom deliver shabu, marijuana, and other illegal drugs.

When a drug test was administered at the terminal, according to PDEA, a number of tricycle drivers fled. The PDEA asserted that their goal is to encourage PUV drivers who have been discovered taking illegal drugs to seek treatment, rehabilitation, and drug-free workplaces rather than to intimidate them.
