Toni Gonzaga Facing Backlash, Shopee Releases Statement

TONI GONZAGA – Online shopping app releases statement amid the backlash against Toni Gonzaga, their new endorser.

Shopee PH gets flak for getting Toni Gonzaga as its new endorser. The leading e-commerce operator received retaliation from several customers and online, many called to boycott the app because of Gonzaga.

As much as many are aware, Gonzaga is among the most controversial personalities of today because of her political stand. Many supported her but many also questioned her political stand knowing that she is a vocal and righteous Christian.

Upon introduction as the online shop’s new ambassadress, the actress expressed gratitude to the people for making her a trending topic online and for their engagement. She said, “Since yesterday we are trending, today we are grateful for our netizens for the mentions and engagements, they are the reasons why we are here today.”

In a new statement from Shopee, they assured that they are “committed to providing” the customers “an enjoyable shopping experience”.

Standing by their new endorser, it added in the issued statement based on a report from ABS-CBN:

“We are extending the same level of commitment to our valued users with 10.10 Brands Festival through mas mura brand deals up to 50% off, back-to-back Super Brand Days, and our new brand ambassador Toni Gonzaga.”

Ahead of Gonzaga’s introduction, hashtags #eShopee and #BoycottShopee became trending topics on Twitter. Some merchants also expressed online that they would move their business elsewhere or to another platform.

However, besides Gonzaga’s part, one thing that people also got furious about is the fact that there has been a mass layoff while they afforded a multi-million endorser.

Meanwhile, before Gonzaga, the former and previous celebrity endorsers of the online shopping platform were Kris Aquino and Manny Pacquiao. Among the current endorsers is Team Dantes.
