DOJ won’t contest Manila court’s dismissal of bid to tag CPP-NPA as terrorists

 

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) would not contest a Manila court’s decision to dismiss their petition for proscription, which sought to declare the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) as terrorists, saying that the court used an old law.

DOJ spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Jose Dominic Clavano said in a statement on Friday that the Manila Regional Trial Court hinged their decision on the Human Security Act of 2007, which he said was already repealed by Republic Act No. 11479 or the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.
