WALANG PASOK – Davao City announced a long weekend starting August 19 until August 21, 2022 in observance of Kadayawan Festival.

Malacañang Palace announced August 19, 2022, as a special non-working day in Davao City due to the celebration of Kadayawan Festival. The holiday was based on Proclamation No. 39 approved by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

The proclamation has been released on August 15, 2022, which aims to give the residents the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion. Kadayawan 2022 would be the first large festival in the country to have a face-to-face celebration since the pandemic break out in 2020.

Kadayawan Festival started last August 15 and will end on August 21, 2022. Meanwhile, August 21, 2022, is also considered a holiday in observance of Ninoy Aquino Day throughout the decades.

“On 19 August 2022, Friday, the City of Davao will mark the celebration of the Indigenous People’s Day in relation to the Kadayawan Festival. It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Davao be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to the public health measures of the national government,” the proclamation reads.

What is Kadayawan Festival?

It is a thanksgiving event for various tribes in Davao City to show their gratitude for an abundant life. The 37th year of the festival indicates the thanksgiving of Dabawenyos who were able to overcome the hardships they have experienced during the most difficult seasons.
