Janella Salvador speaks about Cherie Gil

Kapamilya actress Janella Salvador shared that she is paying tribute to the late actress Cherie Gil with her Valentina role in the new Mars Ravelo’s Darna series.

This project served as a showbiz comeback for Janella after she took a break when she got pregnant. After giving birth, she was offered to do the villain role in a series that features Jane de Leon as Darna. Among the prominent actresses who gave life to this villainess role onscreen was Cherie.

The late actress played Valentine in the 1994 version, titled Darna: Ang Pagbabalik. In that movie, Anjanette Abayari portrayed the titular role. In a recent interview, based on the article in Inquirer, Janella Salvador said that she want to dedicate this to Cherie Gil.

Janella said that in past interviews that when she is asked who she wants to work with, she would always mention the late actress. “I was really sad when I learned about her passing. I will never have that chance anymore,” she said.

Despite not having that chance, Janella said that she hopes Cherie, wherever she is, will be proud of her portrayal. The younger actress also said that the late actress had a very powerful screen presence and her acting was superb and amazing when she portrayed Valentine.

Janella also said that this new Darna is the “woke version.” She said that aside from the modern flavor incorporated in the series, it also tackles social issues. The actress cited her lawyer/vlogger character whose vlogs talked about politics and the cases she is handling. “I will not be fighting with just Darna, but also with politicians because I’m against corruption,” Janella said.

Meanwhile, Janella Salvador mentioned also the physical transformation she went through for her showbiz comeback and her first project after her break. Since she gained weight, she underwent liposuction to help speed up her weight loss journey. After the surgery, she had to work out as soon as she was strong enough.
