Abra’s Bucay town hit by 4.8-magnitude quake as province still swayed by aftershocks

MANILA, Philippines — Abra is still experiencing aftershocks from the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that jolted the province last July 27. And on Friday afternoon, a magnitude 4.8 tremor hit Abra’s Bucay town.

Based on the latest bulletins from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the earthquake Friday was located one kilometer off Bucay’s center, at a depth of 17 kilometers.

Phivolcs explicitly stated that the movement was an aftershock of the Northwestern Luzon earthquake that brought huge destruction in Abra, other provinces in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and areas in Ilocos Region and Cagayan Valley.
