Family of Cherie Gil Confirms Cancer Is Actress’ Cause of Death

CHERIE GIL CANCER – The family of the late actress released a statement regarding her cause of death at 59 years old.

A lot of people’s hearts were broken by the unexpected passing of veteran actress Cherie Gil who died last August 5, 2022. The actress who is known for her “kontrabida” roles most especially when she played Lavinia Arguelles in Bituing Walang Ningning died in New York.

Following the reports about her death, there were some posts claiming that Cherie Gil had cancer. Recently, the actress’ son, Raphael Rogoff, confirmed that his mother was diagnosed with a rare form of endometrial cancer but she decided to keep it from the public. Here’s his Instagram post:

Among the brightest and best actresses in the country’s entertainment industry is Evangeline Rose Gil Eigenmann or more popularly known as Cherie Gil, also known as the “La Primera Contravida”. She might be the one who would always play the antagonist role that really gets into our nerves but in real life, she’s one of the kindest and the most admired.

Many can attest to her acting prowess and she has done so many contributions to the entertainment and film industry of the country. Her career spanned 50 years and she is also known as the  “quintessential kontrabida” in Philippine cinema.

And of all the roles that she portrayed, the one that really left a mark is her Lavinia Arguelles role in Bituing Walang Ningning where she famed the line “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!”

She is the daughter of Filipino singer-actors Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil.
