TRB Releases Statement After Apprehending Fire Truck to Pay Toll Fee

The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has released a statement after apprehending a fire truck to pay toll fee at NLEX.

Over the past few days, the video footage of a firetruck that stopped at the toll gate to pay the toll fee goes viral and garnered various reactions from the online community. The video becomes the headlines of some local news outlets.

The firetruck driver drives as fast as he can to respond during an emergency at Purok 2, Barangay San Marcos in Calumpit, Bulacan after the fire broke out. However, the truck has been apprehended at the toll gate.

The toll gate employee apprehended the firetruck and even asked it to pay the fee, which causes a delay in the emergency operation. The driver even tried to complain and spent around three minutes at the toll gate.

Eventually, the management allowed the truck to pass without paying.

The Marikina Filipino-Chinese Fire Brigade Volunteers wrote on its Facebook page that the incident was an “isolated case” and defended the cashier who was just performing her job.

TRB spokesperson Julius Corpuz has also released a statement regarding the incident and explained that the firetruck is private and not a government vehicle. However, NLEX made a policy to make the toll fee free during emergency situations.

“Strictly po kung susundan po ‘yung Department Order at Memorandum Order, dapat talaga pa siyang magbayad kasi private po siya, hindi siya government vehicle. However, …because of the emergency situation, naging policy naman ng NLEX na lahat ng ‘yan ay libre na,” Corpuz said.

The social media users expressed their reactions to the post:
