MTRCB has this statement about the Maid In Malacanang movie following all the issues.

MAID IN MALACANANG MOVIE – The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) says the film is “dramatized”.

Darryl Yap, a writer and a director, is the brain behind the film “Maid In Malacanang” which is currently making rounds online due to a subject it tackles and some of the scenes he included in it. Allegedly, this film is distorting some historical facts.

And the most viral scene of the film is the one showing late former president Corazon Aquino playing mahjong with the nuns while the Marcoses flee out of the country. This scene caught the attention of the Sisters of the Carmelites Monastery of Cebu.

In a previous article, in the statement released, the nuns slammed the depiction and cried foul over this particular scene. The specific scene was accordingly “malicious” and the “attempt to distort history is reprehensible”. Because the truth then was they were “praying, fasting and making other forms of sacrifices for peace in this country and for the people’s choice to prevail“.

And now, following all the issues that emerged, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) releases a statement that made clarifications about the film being a dramatization and not a documentary.

The film was given Parental Guidance (PG) rating which means that it needs parental supervision and guidance according to Lala Sotto-Antonio, the agency head appointed by the president. It was accordingly the “dramatization of the last 72 hours of the Marcos family in the Palace in 1986 and does not purport to be a documentary” based on the statement.

The statement was issued after San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza called it shameless and called out the MTRCB to act on it responsibly. He also called out the people behind the film like the producer, scriptwriter, director, and those promoting to apologize to the Carmelite nuns, President Cory’s family, and to the Filipino people.
