There’s a new in thing among young ones eager to climb the ladder of success and fast.

It is called sugar dating or sugaring.

It is, at its most basic, a mutually beneficial relationship typically involving an older, wealthier person and a younger person with financial needs.

Is it prostitution?

Those into it argue that it isn’t, that it’s way different, citing how many of them actually develop a bond of sorts with their sugar daddies or mommies – something that doesn’t usually happen between prostitutes and their clients.

Whatever the case may be, wirter-director Jason Paul Laxamana was intrigued enough to create a whole film about it.

Titled “Baby Boy, Baby Girl,” it stars Marco Gumabao and Kylie Verzosa.  

Both are excited about it.

Marco: “It’s quite fascinating. I know these things happen in real life and I’m really excited to take a peek into this thing.”

Kylie: “Ako, title pa lang, umoo na ako. Lalo na nalaman ko na it’s from Direk Jason. I have long wanted to work with him.”

Asked why he picked Marco and Kylie, Jason explained, “Pogi at maganda. They’re eye candy so, very apt sila for their roles kasi nga most sugar babies naman talaga are really good-looking.”

Jason maintained he is not glamorising sugar dating in the film.

“It’s just something that piqued my curiosity and I thought, ‘What if ‘yung dalawang sugar babies ma-fall in love sa isa’t isa? Paano ang careers nila?’ ‘Yun basically ang premise ng movie.”

He described it as a “romantic comedy with a sprinkling of sex.”

“Ayokong magpaka-serious about the topic. Gusto ko light lang, fun, entertaining.”  

Asked as to her thoughts on people engaged in sugar dating, Kylie replied, “I can’t judge. Ang buhay kanya-kanyang raket ‘yan e.”

Marco agreed saying “It’s just another job. It’s work.”
