College of St. Benilde continued its winning amazing winning run, this time claiming the scalp of Jose Rizal University,25-13, 25-21, 25-9, to claim a semis slot in the NCAA women’s volleyball Sunday at the Paco Arena in Manila.

After a dominating start, the Lady Blazers survived a close second-set encounter before once again stepping on the gas in the third to extend their streak to seven games.

Jade Gentapa spearheaded the assault with 16 points, including 14 attacks, while Michelle Gamit chipped in 12 points off seven kills, four aces and one block for St. Benilde, whose straight set victory was also its sixth in seven outings.

“Pinaghirapan pa rin namin yung panalo namin,” said skipper Mycah Go of their lopsided victory.

Go also said they needed to work harder in the third after Lady Bombers kept the game close before losing steam in the crunch.

“Nung second set, nag-relax kami. So inisip lang namin yung palaging reminder ni coach na huwag kaming magpaka-complacent sa laro kasi hindi pa tapos, kaya binuhos na namin sa third set,” Go said.

Indeed, the Lady Blazers’ might was in full display, rushing to a 10-3 lead, which they gallantly protected to prevail.

Go, Ondangan and Jhasmin Pascual finished with seven points apiece for the Lady Blazers as Cloanne Mondonedo distributed the ball well and finished with 18 excellent sets.

JRU slipped to a 3-4 card.

Renesa Melgar and Dolly Verzosa scored seven points each for the Lady Bombers, who converted only 25 kills compared to St. Benilde’s 44 in the 61-minute contest.
