2 Suspects Involved in Beating Traffic Enforcers in Pasay City Have Been Identified, MMDA Says

PASAY CITY – An MMDA official said that two suspects were involved in beating the traffic enforcers in Pasay City.

Over the past few days, the video footage of intense commotion between a group of male residents and MMDA enforcers at Taft MRT in Pasay City spread like a wildfire online and elicit comments from the netizens.

The group of e-bike drivers mauled the MMDA officers while conducting a clearing operation in the area. The enforcers apprehended an e-trike driver and impounded his vehicle for committing a traffic violation. However, the group tried to remove the trike from the tow truck but the enforcers stop them.

On Tuesday (June 28, 2022), MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando Artes reported that two suspects who were involved in beating the traffic enforcers have been already identified.  The authorities are still trying to locate and identify the remaining suspects.

Artes also revealed that the suspects have been previously involved in a traffic violation. MMDA enforcers just warned them during the apprehension and did not give them a citation ticket for their first offense.

“Dalawa na po ang na-identify dahil may previous record na po siya dito sa amin, Nahuli na siyang nag-counterflow, silang dalawa, na pinagbigyan naman po at pinagsabihan lang noong una,” Artes said.

The official also said that there are three or four individuals who were still at large.

Two of the MMDA enforcers have been identified as Jose Zabala and Adrian Nidua who immediately reported the incident to the authorities. Zabala is a retired scout ranger. The victims will sue the suspects.
