Metro Manila’s COVID-19 positivity rate jumps from 3.9% to 5.9% — OCTA

MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila has jumped to 5.9%, independent pandemic monitor OCTA Research Group said Monday.

OCTA fellow Guido David said the positivity rate of the metropolis increased to 5.9% as of June 25 from 3.9% as of June 19.

Positivity rate refers to the percentage of people who were positive for COVID-19 among the total number of individuals tested for the virus.

“WHO (World Health Organization) recommends testing positivity rate less than 5%,” David said in a Twitter post.

On June 22, David said Metro Manila has already breached the WHO benchmark.

In his post, David showed that the positivity rate in Rizal province jumped to 11.9% from 6.3%.

Laguna and South Cotabato posted 7.5% and 7.4% positivity rates from 3.1% and 6.3%, respectively.

Cavite, meanwhile, recorded a 6% positivity rate from 3.6%.

Batangas, Benguet, Bulacan, Cagayan, Cebu, Iloilo, and Pampanga also recorded a spike in their  COVID-19 positivity rates, according to OCTA.
