Controversial film director Darryl Yap has a new project out.

Titled “Maid In Malacañang,” it tackles the last three days of the Marcoses in Malacañang prior to their ouster in 1986.

According to Darryl, the film is an actual account of the events as seen through the eyes of the Marcoses, chief among them Senator Imee Marcos.

“We spoke at length about it. Ang dami kong tanong sa kanya until eventually, I convinced her na we make a film out of it,” he related in a recent interview.

It is a star-studded affair.

The film stars two of the country’s most awarded and talented actors, Cesar Montano and Ruffa Gutierrez, who will portray the roles of President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. and First Lady Imelda Marcos, respectively.

Viva’s premiere talents Cristine Reyes, Diego Loyzaga, and Ella Cruz will portray the couple’s children: Imee, Bongbong, and Irene. Also

Joining them as maids are Karla Estrada, Elizabeth Oropesa, and Beverly Salviejo.

All of them are only too happy to take part.

“Na-miss ko ang umarte and so, of course, very welcome ito para sa akin,” said Cesar.

“I’m actually both nervous and excited at the same time,” said Ruffa. “Siyempre very iconic si Imelda Marcos and I feel quite honored to be picked to portray her in the film.”

Note that “Maid In Malacañang” has been a hot topic on social media for some time now.

People are divided about it.

Some insist it is but another piece of propaganda, an effort to revise history.

Darryl denied this.

“Paano mo huhusgahan ang isang bagay na hindi mo pa napapanood? I really don’t understand that mentality. Kami, we’re just trying to show another side to an event that already happened. Marami na tayong nabasa at napanood tungkol dito. Pero hindi ba interesting din kung ano ang pananaw ng mga Marcos about it? Wala akong magagawa sa mga tao na ayaw umintindi. Pero kami, this is not revisionism. We are just trying to shed new light on the matter.”

Billed a “dramedy,” “Maid In Malacañang” is set to hit theaters July 20.
