Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Hailey Bieber, fellow stars condemn US court ruling on abortion laws

Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and Hailey Bieber were among the celebrities who spoke up against the decision of the US Supreme Court to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling that recognized women’s constitutional right to abortion.
The “Bad Blood” singer admitted she was “absolutely terrified” over the ruling, as per her Twitter page today, June 25.

“I’m absolutely terrified that this is where we are—that after so many decades of people fighting for women’s rights to their own bodies, today’s decision has stripped us of that,” Swift said.
She also showed a statement by former US first lady Michelle Obama that said she was “heartbroken” over what happened.

For his part, Styles urged the public to “look after each other” as he expressed how devastated he was via his Twitter page, also today.
“I’m absolutely devastated for the people of America today. Check on your friends. Look after each other,” the former One Direction member told the public. “We’re all in this together and the fight is just beginning. A truly dark day for America.”
Bieber called the US Supreme Court’s decision an “extreme loss” in her Instagram Stories yesterday, June 24.
“I’m speechless. What an extreme loss and disappointment. This is really really scary,” the American model lamented.

Joining Swift, Styles and Bieber in expressing disappointment were actress Halle Berry and singer Halsey.
“I’m outraged! What the supreme court has done is BULLSHIT. Something has to be done! Guns have more rights than women,” Berry stated on her Twitter page today.
She called to “stop this war on women [and] keep your laws off of our bodies,” then urged the public to work together and “do something about it.”
Meanwhile, Halsey admitted that she felt defeated over the US Supreme Court decision, as per her Twitter page, also today.
“I have been advocating for abortion, reproductive rights and bodily integrity for as long as I’ve had a platform and I’m running out of ways to word and frame the severity of the impact that fundamentalism has on our country,” she said.
“I know some of you look to my page for information or guidance but I need a little bit of time to speak to some people with more authority and experience than me and gather my thoughts. I don’t want to just contribute to antagonistic noise. I’m just defeated at the moment,” Halsey added.
The ruling does not make abortions illegal in the US, but restores the situation prior to Roe v. Wade, when each state in the country was free to choose whether abortions should be allowed or not. Given this, the United Nations called the decision a “huge blow to women’s human rights and gender equality.” /ra
