June 24 a special non-working day in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has declared Friday, June 24, as a special non-working holiday in Manila for the celebration of its 451st founding anniversary.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to the public health measures of the national government,” Proclamation No. 1400, which was signed Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, said Manila.

Medialdea signed the proclamation, by authority of President Rodrigo Duterte, on Wednesday, June 22.

Manila, the national capital, was founded on June 24, 1571, by Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi, the first governor-general of the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period.
