Easterlies, LPA to bring rain in Bicol Region, Caraga, Western Visayas
MANILA, Philippines — The easterlies and a low-pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Eastern Samar are forecast to bring rain over parts of Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga on Thursday, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
According to Pagasa weather specialist Ana Clauren in a weather report late Wednesday afternoon, the LPA was last spotted 170 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

Clauren, however, said the LPA isn’t expected to escalate into a storm and may dissipate in the next 48 hours.
“Para sa magiging lagay ng ulan bukas, dahil sa easterlies magkakaroon ng mauulap na kalangitan na may kalat kalat na pagulan, pagkidlat, pagkulog ang bahagi ng Bicol region,” said Clauren.

(Tomorrow, due to the easterlies there will be cloudy skies with scattered rain, lightning and thunder in parts of Bicol region.)
“Ngunit sa Metro Manila at sa nalalabing bahagi pa ng Luzon magiging maaliwalas pa rin po ang ating panahon na inaasahan bukas, magiging mainit at maalinsangan lang sa tanghali at mataas ang tiyansa ng mga isolated na pagulan sa hapon at gabi dala ng easterlies at thunderstorms,” she added.
(But in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, our weather will still be clear, hot and humid only at noon and a high chance of isolated rains in the afternoon and evening due to easterlies and thunderstorms.)
The easterlies and the LPA will likewise cause rain in Eastern Visayas and Caraga, while the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will experience generally fair weather with chances of rain in the afternoon and evening.
Despite the presence of an LPA and the prevailing easterlies, Clauren said that no gale warning was raised by Pagasa over the country’s seaboards, where only slight to moderate sea conditions are expected throughout the country’s surrounding coasts.
The state weather service said the temperature range in key cities/areas across the country for Thursday will be:
