Luis Manzano admits being asked to run in politics: ‘Hindi pa ready’

Luis Manzano stressed that he is not yet ready to enter politics even as representatives from various sectors urged him to run for public post.
The actor-TV host spoke about this and disclosed that his family, specifically his mom Vilma Santos, never asked him to enter politics, as per an exclusive interview with comedian-talent manager Ogie Diaz on his YouTube channel yesterday, June 7.

“Kahit na nagkaroon ako ng political family at one point—ni wala akong maalalang instance na inupo ako at sinabihan ako ng ‘Anak, tumakbo ka.’ Wala kaming gano’n,” Manzano said.
(Even when I had a political family at one point—I cannot remember an instance where they talked to me and told me, “Son, run for public post.” We did not have anything like that.)

Manzano then pointed out that although some are talking him into politics, he does not want to run for a position while he is still committed to show biz.
“May mga kumakausap sa akin, mga different sectors,” he stated. “‘Pag kunwari dumadalaw ako sa Lipa, minsan nagugulat na lang ako na may mga teachers, mga pari, madre at from different organizations na gusto akong makausap at gusto akong tumakbo, so parang sabi ko, ‘Hindi pa ready.’”
(There are people from different sectors who are talking to me. Sometimes when I visit Lipa, I get surprised that there are teachers, priests, nuns and people from different organizations who want to talk to me and urge me to run in politics. I told them, “I am not yet ready.”)
“Napakapanget naman na tatakbo ako samantalang mas busy ako sa [ABS-CBN],” he added. “Hindi ko ma-gets ‘yung point na gano’n, na hihingi ka ng boto ng tao tapos mangangako ka na gagawin mo ‘to pero ‘pag hinanap ka nasa hosting ka.”
(It does not seem right if I run for office while I am busy in ABS-CBN. I do not get the point of asking for the public’s votes and making promises, then when they ask for your presence, you are doing a hosting.)
Manzano also said he has a goal for his family which he will not be able to achieve if he enters politics.
“Hindi ako yayaman sa politika. Mas matakot kayo kung doon ako yumayaman sa politika, ‘di ba? Pero hindi e,” he said. “Syempre may buhay ako na gustong ibigay sa pamilya ko.”

(I will not get rich in politics. People should be alarmed if I get rich because of politics, right? But that is not the case. Of course I have a life I want to give to my family.)
Meanwhile, Manzano has been open about his readiness to have a child with his wife, actress Jessy Mendiola, as he recently asked for items for babies as gift from Santos. /ra
