MANILA, Philippines–La Salle pounced on Ateneo that committed a rash of endgame errors to prevail, 19-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-22, 15-12, Tuesday night and inch closer to a twice-to-beat advantage in the UAAP Season 82 women’s volleyball at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Lady Spikers once again stamped their class over their archival — twice this season — to register their 10th win in 13 matches.

But it wasn’t a walk in the park as the Blue Eagles put up a big fight fitting for their rivalry. However at 11-10 La Salle lead, Ateneo top gunner Faith Nisperos bungled an attack that was succeeded by two more violations as the Lady Spikers went match point.

Ateneo saved two match points before La Salle substitute hitter Baby Jeyn Soreño fired the match-clinching spike.

Leiah Malaluan and Soreño had 17-point outputs La Salle, which hiked its standings to 10-3, while Jolina dela Cruz finished with 14 points

“We just tried to help one another prove to each other that we can beat Ateneo that’s why we played that way,” said Soreño.

The Blue Eagles saw their three-game winning streak cut and will need one more win to assure themselves of the Final Four spot at 7-6.
