Tons of Bangus, Tilapia & Fish Dies of Fishkill in Obando, Bulacan

Tons of bangus, tilapia, and other types of fish have died due to fishkill in Obanda, Bulacan, which causes losses to fisher growers.

Several fish farms in Barangay Tawiran, Obando, Bulacan suffered massive losses of fish since Monday (May 16, 2022) due to fish kill. The dead fishes have been found floating in Tawiran Lake.

The fish growers have expressed their frustrations and disappointment regarding the incident. The owners feed and take good care of their milkfish, cichlid, and arroyo for over two months on the farm.

The entrepreneurs usually earn P3, 000 per crate/banyera of fish. Unfortunately, their expected income disappears due to the fish kill. Most of them have spent a huge amount of cash on feeds, workers, and maintenance.

A fish farm owner named Ferdinand Garcia saw the dead fish floating in the waters. Garcia distributes the dead fish for free to the residents.

The affected fisher folks believe that the hot weather condition over the last few weeks and the sudden downpour of rain this week causes loss of oxygen, which allegedly resulted in fish kill.

The social media users expressed their reactions to the post:
