SEA Games: PH chess breaks through with two medals

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine chess contingent won its first two medals in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam on Thursday.
Grandmaster Darwin Laylo and International Master Paulo Bersamina snagged the silver medal in the men’s team rapid event at Quang Ninh Exhibition Of Urban Planning & Expo.

The tandem of Janelle Frayna, the first Filipino Woman Grand Master, and Marie Antoinette San Diego also made the podium, finishing with the bronze in women’s team rapid.
The Philippines failed to win a medal in the 2019 SEA Games.
