Presumptive Vice President Sara Duterte Speaks on DepEd Appointment, Call for ROTC

SARA DUTERTE – The presumptive vice president clarified her push for the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) and her appointment as the secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).

The frontrunners of the presidential and vice-presidential elections 2022 have a wide lead over the candidates next to them on the partial and unofficial results. More than 98% of the votes have already been canvassed.

The presumptive president is former senator Bongbong Marcos Jr. who garnered more than 31 million votes. He ran under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas and his presidential candidacy earned the support of several big political parties and local government officials.

Marcos Jr.’s running-mate, presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, is also leading the vice-presidential race. Her votes also reached 31 million.

Previously, former Senator Bongbong Marcos Jr. expressed his gratitude to the Filipinos who voted for him last May 9. Following his message of gratitude, he also announced that he wants presumptive vice president Sara Duterte-Carpio to head the Department of Education (DepEd).

The Davao City Mayor accepted the appointment and expressed her gratitude to the presumptive president. She also vowed to make education reforms in the field to produce Filipino students who are reaching their full potential.

However, following the reports about the appointment of presumptive vice president Sara Duterte-Carpio in DepEd, talks about her previous push for the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. (ROTC) resurfaced. Recently, she made a clarification regarding the issues.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, speaking to Davao City Disaster Radio, Mayor Duterte-Carpio stressed that DepEd is all about basic education and the Alternative Learning Systems (ALS). She clarified that it has nothing to do with her push for ROTC.

“Remind ko lang lahat ng matalino that the Department of Education is all about basic education, plus Alternative Learning System (ALS). So, it has nothing to do with ROTC,” Duterte-Carpio expressed.
