SEA Games: Jessica Geriane wins swimming silver, breaks PH record

Jessica Joy Geriane finishes silver in women’s 50m backstroke.

MANILA, Philippines–Jessica Geriane clinched the silver medal in the women’s 50 meter backstroke in the 31st Southeast Asian Games swimming competition on Sunday at My Dinh Water Sports Palace in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Geriane also set a new Philippine record in women’s 50m backstrokemafter finishing with a time of 29.35 seconds.

She bettered her time in the final after registering 29.38 seconds in the preliminaries earlier in the day to break Jasmine Alkhaldi’s previous record (29.53).

Masniari Wolf of Indonesia won the gold medal (29.21) while compatriot Anak Agung Istri Kania Ratih Atmaja  settled for bronze (29.59).

Another Filipino swimmer, Chloe Isleta, meanwhile placed fourth (29.74).

This is Philippine swimming’s second medal after Miranda copped bronze in women’s 100 meter freestyle the day before.
