Man Dies After Staying at Polling Center During Election Day

A man in Pangasinan has passed away after staying at a polling center during the Election Day to monitor his poll watcher child.

The 48-year-old victim identified as Alexander Casilang was still able to vote last Monday (May 9, 2022). After casting his vote, the latter remained at the polling center to wait for his poll watcher child.

Alexander suffered from breathing difficulty and tightening of his chest after returning to his home. His live-in partner Imelda Apostol has expressed her grief regarding the untimely death of her partner.

The victim has been rushed to the hospital but he declared dead-on-arrival. The family believes that the victim suffered from heat stroke because he had no other illness prior to the incident.

In the victim’s death certificate, Casilang reportedly dies of “Acute Myocardial Infarction”.

Dr. Raquel Ogoy said.

The Department of Health gives some tips to avoid heatstroke:

•          Avoid long exposure to sunlight

•          Drink plenty of water

•          Avoid soft drinks, tea, coffee, and liquors

•          Wear caps

•          Wear long sleeves outdoors

•          Schedule heavy works during cooler weather condition
