Informant Finally Exposes Modus of Hackers to Scam BDO Bank Account Holders

BDO HACKING ISSUE – An informant has finally exposed the techniques and strategies of hackers to access the BDO client’s OTP.

The informant identified as alias ‘Alex’ who give an information to the National Bureau of Immigration (NBI), which leads to the arrest of hackers involved in text blast that victimized of 700 bank clients.

Alex revealed the strategy used by the suspects to lure the clients of BDO Unibank Inc and how the hackers were able to gain access to the OTP (one-time password) of the bank account holders.

According to the latter, the victims will be required to visit a clone website wherein they need to respond to a text blast. The bank account holders have to log in their username and password.

“Doon po sa message link kung saan papasok ka po sa clone website na doon ka magla-log in ng user at password. At the same time po meron na po kaming OTP (one-time password) bypass nung depositor. Kumbaga hindi na po papasok sa kaniya yung OTP, kundi sa panel na po namin,” Alex said.

The informant also revealed that he contribute in creating the account “Mark Nagoyo” wherein the money from scam victims have been deposited. They take the opportunity during the Christmas season due to massive number of depositors.

NBI has also advised the public to be more vigilant of their surroundings and handle their passwords carefully to prevent such incidents. The agency would also examine the gadgets recovered from the suspects. Two Nigerian nationals have been also arrested.

“Kasalukuyang ine-examine ang mga gadgets ng naarestong suspect para mas maintindihan natin ang detalye ng kanilang operasyon na magamit natin para mas mapalakas ang security ng ating financial institutions,” NBI Director Eric Distor said.
