11 mayors of CamSur reportedly giving support to an opponent of Leni Robredo
CamSur is a known bailiwick of the Vice President. However, reports surfaced just recently that mayors from the said area are not supporting her but instead they are choosing BBM as their presidential candidate.
In line with this, during an interview on ANC Rundown Thursday, the Vice President gave her reaction. She said that she is not bothered by these reports and stressed that she won the vice presidential race in 2016 because she was supported by her “kababayans”.
“Noong 2016, when I was running for VP, halos walang malaking pulitiko dito sa Bicol region na nag-throw ng support for me. And I was expecting that. There were 5 of us Bicolanos out of 6 candidates, pero I still got almost 70% of the Bicolano votes,” VP Leni Robredo said.
Back then, Robredo was running against Chiz Escudero, Gringo Honasan, Alan Peter Cayetano, Antonio Trillanes, and Bongbong Marcos, and the latter was the only one who has no Bicolano roots.
Robredo pointed out that in this presidential race, she is the only one who is from Bicol and the support from the people in her hometown is much more intense now than in 2016.
“Noong 2016, mas mahiyain pa ang mga tao to go out. Pero now, ’yung galaw talaga, Mike, nanggagaling sa mga ordinaryong mamamayan and they have been doing so much,” the presidential aspirant said.
Just recently, Cabinet members senior officials of former President Fidel V. Ramos expressed support for VP Len Robredo and she is very thankful for this. She said that she was surprised in a pleasant way by the support that she is receiving from local officials.
“Nagulat ako na there are actually big local politicians, very respected ones who have been very public of their support for us so I’m very, very grateful,” the Vice President said.
