Mayor Isko Moreno Speaks on Registration for Free Entrance to Manila Zoo

MAYOR ISKO MORENO – The capital city’s Mayor announced the opening of the Manila Zoo and the free entrance for a thousand visitors daily.

A lot of people most especially parents who want to tour their children to a zoo await the opening of the Manila Zoo, the oldest menagerie in Southeast Asia. The 5-hectare zoo previously closed for a while for renovation. Wider and cleaner spaces were made available for the animals including Mali, the lone elephant in the country.

Mali was only three (3) years old when she arrived in the Philippines. Although she is used to her old space, her new pen is wider and cleaner.

Previously, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno announced that there will be a free entrance to the Manila Zoo in the first month of its opening. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be restrictions like the reduced capacity of the menageries.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Mayor Isko Moreno announced that the Manila Zoo will open starting today from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. The entrance will be free for a thousand people in a day but walk-ins are not allowed so visitors must register at www.manilazoo.ph.

According to Mayor Isko, the local government will check on the possibility of increasing the number of visitors that will be allowed entry to the zoo as days go by. Prior to the pandemic, the 5-hectare menagerie can accommodate up to 16,000 visitors.

Currently, food stalls are not available yet inside the zoo but the visitors can bring their food or temporarily leave the zoo to eat without the need to register again upon coming back. Based on the report, COVID-19 vaccinations are also available inside the facility for senior citizens and children ages 12 to 17 years old.

Mayor Isko Moreno stressed that he wants families to have quality time together and the elderly and the children to be able to tour without having to spend a lot. For those who want to have their vaccination at the facility inside the zoo, you may register via www.manilacovid19vaccine.ph.
