Soldier Jailed After Caught Violating Election Gun Ban, Illegal Sabong

Police authorities arrested a soldier who was allegedly caught involved in an illegal cockfight (sabong) and violating the election gun ban.

After being captured in an illegal cockfight in Taguig, fifteen people were detained, including a soldier.  30-year-old soldier Francisco Serdan was detained. Serdan’s sling bag, which included an empty .45 caliber weapon, was confiscated, according to the police report.

He was also found to be in possession of a.45 caliber magazine, four rounds, and an additional magazine. Serdan was a soldier, according to the Public Information Office of the Southern Police District (SPD).

It is illegal to carry a handgun while a security staff is no longer on duty, according to the gun restriction statute in effect during election seasons. The other suspects were also arrested and confiscated with two hens and P3,640 in stakes.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said that two troops and a reservist were detained for breaking the firearms prohibition. Eduardo Dinopol Jr., a 27-year-old Philippine Army soldier stationed in Bukidnon, was apprehended for allegedly discharging his handgun unlawfully.

Dinopol was found with a.45 caliber pistol and three magazines containing 34 rounds, according to police. Reservist Allan Reyes, 48, was arrested for illegally possessing a loaded.45-caliber revolver.

During the enforcement of the Commission on Elections’ weapons prohibition, the PNP detained 12 police officers, 13 civilians, and a security guard at checkpoints around the country. So far, police have seized ten weapons.
