Metro Manila posts lowest temperature yet this ‘amihan’ season at 19°C

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Tuesday recorded 19°C in Metro Manila, which is the lowest temperature yet in the region since the northeast monsoon or “amihan” season began.
In its daily temperature data, Pagasa showed that its station in Science Garen in Quezon City registered a 19°C temperature – colder than the 19.7°C temperature recorded on Sunday, January 16.

The following are the top ten lowest temperatures across the country on Tuesday, January 18:
- Baguio City, Benguet: 12.0°C, 6:50 a.m.
- San Jose, Occidental Mindoro: 17.5°C, 5 a.m.
- Casiguran, Aurora: 17.6°C, 6 a.m.
- Tanay, Rizal: 17.8°C, 5 a.m.
- Tuguegarao City, Cagayan: 17.8°C, 7:55 a.m.
- Laoag City, Ilocos Norte: 18.7°C, 7 a.m.
- Abucay, Bataan: 19.0°C, 4 a.m.
- Science Garden, Quezon City: 19.0°C, 6 a.m.
- Subic, Zambales: 19.2°C, 5:45 a.m.
- Malaybalay, Bukidnon: 19.3°C, 6: a.m.
The country’s amihan season started in October. The amihan is a cool and dry northeast wind coming from Siberia and China that blows down to Southeast Asia.
Metro Manila reported its lowest ever temperature on January 11, 1914, at 14.5°C, according to Pagasa’s official website.
