MANILA, Philippines—Mark Magsayo aims to make a strong case in his first world title fight.

Magsayo (23-0, 16KOs) challenges WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr. (31-1, 18KOs) on January 22 in Atlantic City, New Jersey in a bout where the unbeaten Filipino hopes to put the division on notice.

“I’m gonna show the world that I’m the best in this weight,” Magsayo said Wednesday on Boxing Social. “I’ve been waiting for this time so I’m gonna do my best to win the fight.”

The 26-year-old Magsayo goes into the fight riding high following his gutsy win over Julio Ceja of Mexico last August.

Showing great resolve, Magsayo overcame a fifth round knockdown to dish out a brutal knockout win in the 10th round.

The win was voted Knockout of the Year through the Premier Boxing Champions’ Twitter and YouTube polls.
