What are the pull push rule uses and what is this?

PULL PUSH RULE USES – Definition of pull push rule, an explanation of the uses of this tool, and its difference between a ruler.

A type of tool used to measure long pieces of stock is the pull push rule. Among its kind are: zigzag rule (a folded measuring tool), ruler (to measure short pieces of stock), caliper (for measuring diameter), try square (to check flatness and squareness), measuring stick (a 1-meter measuring device), divider (for dividing distances), compass (for arcs and circles), and protractor (for laying out angles).

In handling measuring tools or instruments, it is important to remember the following that you should do:

  • wipe them before returning to the storage room
  • oil the movable parts to maintain its smooth movement such as zigzag rules, calipers, dividers and compasses
  • don’t let grits like sand enter the housing or case of a pull push rule and check its lock to make sure that it is still working

A pull push rule is something that is stretched to measure long stocks and can retract by itself to a coil in a compact case. It can be used to measure long, short, and straight lengths. This tool is also useful for woodworking and metalworking to mark out the lines for cutting or other operations. Its length can be from five or six feet up to twenty-five feet.

What is its difference between a ruler? A ruler can only measure short measurements unlike the pull push rule which can measure both short and long objects.
