IN ADDITION IN A SENTENCE – How to properly use “in addition” in a sentence and here are some sample sentences with “in addition” in them.

Creating sentences may not be easy as it seems most especially if you are conscious about your grammar. And a phrase commonly added to sentences to connect it and show the connection of ideas or thoughts is the “in addition”. You use this in a sentence when you want to mention another idea that is related or connected with the discussed subject.

“In addition” is used between two sentences and if it is followed by a noun or pronoun.

How to use “in addition” in sentences based on the sentence structure:

  • Simple Sentences with “in addition”

It has a subject and a verb, and may also contain an object and modifiers with only one independent clause.

  • Compound Sentences with “in addition”

It has at least two independent clauses that can be combined through a comma and a coordinating conjunction or a semicolon.

  • Complex Sentences with “in addition”

It has at least one independent clause and at least one dependent clause where the latter refers to the subject, sequence or time, or causal elements of the former.

  • Compound-Complex Sentences with “in addition”

A combination of sentence types with at least two independent clauses and at least one dependent clause.

Here are some sample sentences that have “in addition” in them:

  2. There was a heavy downpour and, in addition, there was flooding.
  3. I study Chinese in addition to English.
  4. He is alleged of commiting several robberies in the city, in addition to his latest charge of estafa.

  6. I get my monthly allowance in addition to my normal salary.
  7. In addition to running, I’m good at basketball.
  8. He is so talented that he can play the guitar, drums in addition to his singing skills.
  9. My new job requires a full-time commitment. In addition, there will be unannounced OTs and unarranged days-off.
  10. I cannot come to the party, I need to attent a meeting. In addition, there is someone important I need to meet at 3 PM.

Apart from “in addition”, you may also use “additionally”, “as well”, “what’s more”, “besides”, “furthermore”, “moreover”, “also”, “into the bargain”, “to boot”, “as well as”, “on top of”, “along with”, and “plus”.
