Manilyn Reynes recounts witnessing typhoon Odette in Cebu: ‘Destroyed houses, threatened lives’

Manilyn Reynes recalled her first-hand experience with super typhoon Odette that hit her hometown Cebu last week. She also talked about the damages suffered by the city.

The actress showed heavy rains pouring outside the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu, as well as strong winds that toppled down power lines and trees, in a video on her Instagram page yesterday, Dec. 22. Reynes sought shelter at the hotel when the super typhoon struck the Queen City of the South.

Reynes also gave fans a look at the aftermath of the storm, which left the walls of the hotel knocked down, tables and chairs displaced, and parts of the structure’s ceiling destroyed.

“We were in my hometown, Cebu, when Odette hit the country last Dec. 16. We witnessed how she destroyed houses, structures and threatened the lives of many,” she told fans.

Reynes urged the public to pray for those who were badly affected by the typhoon in Cebu, Bohol, Southern Leyte, Siargao, Surigao del Norte and their neighboring provinces.

“[If] there is anything we can do to help, in anyway we can, let us. Please,” she added.

Super typhoon Odette (international name: Rai) made its first

landfall

on Siargao island on Dec. 16. It caused devastation to other parts of Visayas and Mindanao before

exiting

the country on Saturday, Dec. 18.

Data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said that about

258 individuals died

due to the typhoon and 568 were injured, as of this writing. However, the national police tallied a higher

death toll

at 375.  /
