The wrath of Typhoon
led to the loss of lives and massive destruction of properties in several areas in the Philippines. Many cities were submerged in floodwater and some areas are still experiencing downtime in power and communication lines.
PH has undeniably prepared for Odette as forecasts urged massive preparations that include preemptive evacuations in areas where flooding usually occurs. However, the typhoon has its own strength bringing heavy rains and strong winds.
A lot of families lost their houses to flooding, strong winds, and falling trees. Public and private entities are now leading the initiatives to help the typhoon victims.
Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Sen. Bong Go visited the island of Siargao which is one of the areas left devastated by Typhoon Odette. Based on a report on
, before visiting the evacuation centers, the President and the Senator viewed the scale of the damage caused by the typhoon from their plane.
Pres. Duterte and Sen. Go visited the typhoon victims in Dapa town. Aside from Siargao, the President also previously went to Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental to give guidance on its recovery from the calamity.
Kabankalan was submerged in floodwater amid the onslaught of Typhoon Odette. Its neighboring city, Sipalay, also experienced the same. Both cities are in the province of Negros Occidental which is currently under a State of Calamity.
Many people now are in need of help following the onslaught of Typhoon Odette. Those who lost their houses are staying in evacuation centers and temporary shelters now. The President vowed to give money from his office for the victims of the typhoon.
