Man in Davao Goes Viral After Using Used Face Shields to Create Christmas Tree
A creative man in Davao City has earned praise from the netizens after recycling some used face shields to create a Christmas tree.
People were overjoyed to say goodbye to their face shields after the government announced that they were no longer required when going outside their house and visiting public places. Many people have discarded their old and worn face shields, but Bayani Isagani Panuncillon, a Davao City resident, has created an artistic work with them.
Rather than tossing away the accumulated face shields from frequent entry to work, he devised a strategy to make use of them. In an interview with the Philippine Star, Bayani said that he first started creating his “pandemic Christmas tree” out of old face shields in October.
To make it more colorful, he utilized up to 15 face shields that he decorated with Christmas balls, lights, and artificial flowers. Meanwhile, it was supported by a recyclable bottle.
According to Bayani, he only spent P350 for his “

,” which his children loved since it flashed lights. Even Bayani’s neighbors applauded his artistic work.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) had previously warned that the face shields should not be discarded first because they may be needed again in the future. The government gradually loosened its health rules as the number of COVID-19 cases in the country began to fall. Only recently, in November, it was announced that wearing a face cover was no longer required.
