Vico Sotto Says Election-Related Materials on Public Properties Should Be Removed

The Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto ordered the removal of election-related materials placed on public properties around the city.

Election-related materials, such as tarpaulins displaying Sotto’s face and name, are authorized to be placed on Pasig-owned premises, according to Sotto. On Friday, Sotto distributed his command memorandum.

The memorandum states that displaying or posting posters, tarpaulins, ribbons, and other related materials on city-owned properties for a political campaign and/or commercial purposes is strictly prohibited unless the city government expressly permits it in accordance with the 2017 Pasig Revised Revenue Code. He went on to say that even a tarpaulin with his face was not permitted.

“I instructed our personnel through the City Admin to remove election-related materials posted on public property,” Sotto tweeted.

“Kahit tarpaulin ko pa yan,” he added.

He also said that if posters were removed from private premises, residents should report it to Ugnayan sa Pasig. Mayor Vico recently slammed former Pasig Mayor Bobby Eusebio for resorting to social media to challenge the city’s lack of holiday decorations.

Mayor Vico stated that it is a matter of prioritizing, particularly during the pandemic, and that it does not appear that it is proper to come up with something magnificent at this time. According to Mayor Vico, the municipal government has made the procurement and distribution of Christmas food packs for all residents a top priority.

He backs up his claim by claiming that the Pasig City government spent PHP 234.6 million to purchase 375,000 Christmas food packets, which were distributed to all homes in the city.
