2 Korean Nationals Accused of Extortion from Fellow Korean Arrested in Pasay City

Police authorities arrested two (2) Korean nationals in Pasay City after being accused of extortion against their fellow Korean national.

Brig. General Jimili Macaraeg, the chief of the Southern Police District, arrested two Koreans for allegedly extorting money from one of their compatriots in exchange for his stolen automobile in a Pasay City condominium. Lee Giyeoung, 62, of Malate, Manila, and Kim Jae Yong, 55, of Villamor, Pasay City, were identified as the suspects.

The two, according to the police, were unable to resist arrest when they were apprehended during an entrapment operation on Donada Street in the city. Kim Yooshiko, 54, of Diamond Subd., Balibago, Angeles City, Pampanga, had previously filed a police report after another suspect, Hyunju Kim, reportedly took his automobile while it was parked in front of a condominium building in the city.

On the night of December 2, Giyeoung and Yong allegedly demanded money from the victim in exchange for his vehicle, which had been taken by Kim, prompting officials to arrest them. The two suspects have been charged with extortion, while Kim is still wanted by the police for allegedly breaching Republic Act 10883 (Anti-Carnapping Act).

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has apprehended two South Korean nationals who are wanted in their home country for alleged telecom fraud. The accused are alleged members of a telecommunications fraud ring that has already defrauded fellow Koreans out of a total of 29 million won (approximately P1.24 million).

The individuals were seized in separate operations after the Bureau of Immigration issued a deportation warrant (BI). They were discovered in Taguig City by members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Anti-Transnational Crime Unit (CIDG-ATCU).
