Inmates feed thousands at 3-day vaccination drive in Albay

LIGAO CITY – Inmates of Tabaco City District Jail in Albay province baked different kinds of bread to feed the more than one thousand persons who participated in the nationwide vaccination event in the government’s bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 and its variants.

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel distributed the food at different vaccination sites, particularly at the city terminal and San Lorenzo Elementary School in Tabaco City.

“Our persons deprived of liberty baked more than 1,000 pieces of chocolate and Spanish bread and muffins and gave it for free to individuals,” Jail Officer 2 Rebbyn Quililan, Community Relations Services Officer, said.

Quililan said inmates’ efforts show their support for the national government’s 3-day inoculation activity, which started Monday, November 29.

“The pieces of bread which was made at Bread of Love Bakeshop inside the BJMP compound really helped a lot in order not to make the residents, frontliners and volunteers hungry who been staying for several hours at vaccinations sites,” she added.

She said Jail Senior Inspector Tedler Samonte, officer-in-charge of Tabaco City jail, initiated the activity with Tabak Eagles Club.

Aside from free bread, jail personnel who were registered nurses also served as inoculators while the non-medical personnel served as marshalls to control the crowd and speed up the activity.
