Leni Robredo Accepts Manny Pacquiao’s Challenge for Face-to-Face Debate

LENI ROBREDO – The Vice President has accepted Senator Manny Pacquiao’s challenge for face-to-face debate against presidential contenders.

Vice President Leni Robredo supports Senator Manny Pacquiao’s proposal to hold a face-to-face presidential debate for the 2022 elections. Pacquiao has issued a challenge to other presidential contenders, stating that face-to-face debates are preferable to online debates.

“Agree naman ako sa kanya na maganda talaga ‘yung face-to-face na debate and tingin ko, ngayon kasi hindi pa naman official campaign period, dapat talaga face-to-face para ‘yung mga issues natutuldukan habang magkakasama kayo sa isang event,” said VP Leni at a press conference in Naga.

According to Robredo, who is also running for president, it is difficult if the discussion takes place online, and it is tough if the debate consists solely of questions and answers because all problems are not addressed. She added that candidates are not asked about their feelings on several problems all at once.

“Mahirap kung ‘yung debate nagsasagutan lang, kasi hindi nabibigyan ng linaw ‘yung lahat ng issues,” she said.

“So tayo nilo-look forward natin ‘yung face-to-face na debate,” the presidential aspirant added.

Pacquiao stated in an interview that he has nothing to hide and that he is willing to meet with any presidential opponent. Pacquiao challenged other presidential candidates to a debate, stating that he is ready to fight in next year’s election.

“I have nothing to hide. I’m sincere and I don’t need to prepare for questions that will question my integrity. I have nothing to hide,” he said in Filipino.
