Online Petition Launched by Netizens to Nullify Nobel Peace Prize of Maria Ressa

The online community has launched an online petition to nullify the Nobel Peace prize recently received by the Rappler’s founder Maria Ressa.

The Nobel Peace Prize of journalist and founder of online news out Rappler should be revoked, according to an online petition posted on the

Change.org

website. Ressa, according to the petition, does not have the right to claim the award because of publishing several false reports.

Ressa is a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize this year for her bravery in “defending press freedom” in the Philippines. The online community, on the other hand, argued that she is infamous for peddling fake news and that her ‘news’ channel is funded by Omidyar, a foreigner, which is a blatant violation of the constitution.

According to the petition, the majority of people do not celebrate her achievement since they are more knowledgeable about who she is and what she does. As a result, they started a petition with 49,899 signatures asking the Nobel Committee to revoke her award and look into what she’s doing.

Recently, Rappler’s founder expresses her reactions towards the

congratulatory message of Malacañang Palace

on her Nobel Peace Award. According to the journalist, the Malacañang message contained a “hit” and a “reminder” of her cyberlibel charges.

This is what Ressa insisted on a day after Malacaang greeted her after she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Ressa maintained that because her cyber libel case was a government case, the government should take responsibility. She then expresses her gratitude for the message in a flat tone.

“So this is the government’s case, it’s the Department of Justice’s, it is their decision. So they should really own it. So thanks, but not thanks,” Ressa said.
