BACOLOD CITY- Around  500 vehicles joined a festive one-hour , pink-themed “Para kay Leni” caravan, complete with MassKara dancers and drumbeaters here on Saturday, in support of the 2022 presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo.

In observance of COVID-19 protocols, volunteers at the start of the caravan in Talisay City in the north and the old Bacolod airport in the south held up tarpaulins that read “Face mask on, Stay in your vehicle.”

Lawyer Pinky Mirano Ocampo, Laban Leni Negros Occidental (LLNO) spokesperson, said about 500 vehicles joined the caravan despite the rain earlier in the morning.

“It is very overwhelming”, she said, of the spontaneous show of support for Robredo despite short notice.

People just spontaneously showed up to join in response to posts on social media, and the vehicles were not only from Bacolod City but from towns and cities in southern and northern Negros, she said.

The caravan of vehicles was also joined by locals on pedicabs, motorcycles and even bicycles, that showed participation from a cross section of society, Ocampo said.

She said the LLNO has raised funds to put up a billboard for Robredo and her running mate. Sen. Kiko Pangilinan on Araneta Street in Bacolod City and another supporter is putting up another billboard along the Circumferential Road.

The LLNO campaign for Leni is being fueled by private sector support, which is planning more activities during Robedo’s visit in Bacolod on Nov. 5.
