Barangay Officials Should Seize Minors Playing Outside, MMDA Ordered

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has ordered the barangay officials to seize minors who will be caught playing outside.

Minors who are spotted playing outside their houses are handed over to barangay officials by the MMDA. Even though the National Capital Region has been dropped to alert level 3, MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos reminded the public that youngsters 17 and under, especially senior people and pregnant women, are not allowed to leave their homes.

“Ngayon kung hindi exercise ito, talagang bawal po iyon. Pangalawa, walang mask, naku, lalong bawal po iyon. Talagang dapat po sitahin ito dahil ito ay para sa mga bata, para sa pamilya nila,” Abalos said at a press briefing in Malacañang.

The child’s resistance will be great, but once they return home, they will infect everyone and their family, according to Abalos. He went on to say that it’s just a “rule of thumb,” reminding folks that they’re doing it to stop the virus from spreading.

Minors and other vulnerable groups, such as older residents, are only allowed to leave their houses if they need to obtain “vital goods and services” under the alert level system. Those who work in open industries and offices, as well as those who exercise, are permitted.

In this regard, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III warned that due to the rise in people on the streets and other crowded sites such as Manila Bay’s “dolomite beach,” there may be a recurrence of COVID cases.

This is a’superspreader event,’ according to Duque, and might be the basis of another COVID outbreak in four to six months. Duque, on the other hand, expects that the public will continue to exercise self-discipline by sticking to public health guidelines.
