Returning OFWs From Green Countries Not Obliged to Undergo Quarantine

Returning OFWs from green countries are not obliged to undergo quarantine as OWWA plans to revise the current health protocols.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) informed the Overseas Filipino Workers planning to return to the Philippines to wait for further updates regarding the new list countries that will be included in green lane.

OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac that the returning OFWs during the Christmas season must wait for further updates of list. He also advised the migrant workers to monitor and take care of themselves.

“Itong magbabakasyon ng Pasko, meron lang konting kwidaw kasi nirerepaso ‘yung list. Talagang kailangan lang subaybayan ‘yung list. They can book themselves but ‘yun lang, meron lang thing that you need to look out for,”

Cacdac said.

Cacdac also said that the Inter-Agency Task Force and the experts from the Department of Health will meet for the revision of countries to be included in the green list.

Previously, the pandemic task force approved the shorter quarantine period of vaccinated OFWs who will return to the Filipinos. The OFWs just have to present their negative PCR test result 72 hours before leaving their origin country or PCR test results after their arrival in the country.

However, the OWWA official said that the OFWs must undergo quarantine upon arrival and would be released after the results turned negative. The current process is quite different from the former 10 days quarantine.

“Basta’t OFW, Pilipino, nagtatrabaho sa ibang bansa whether documented or undocumented, ‘yung temporary contract work na tinatawag, ‘yun po ay kwalipikado sa ating programa,”

Cacdac added.

The

official

also clarified that the government would shoulder the expenses for food, hotel quarantine and transportation.
