COVID-19 hits 7,835 more individuals

MANILA, Philippines — Another 7,835 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the number of active coronavirus cases in the country to 84,850 as of Thursday, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

According to the DOH, 91 percent or 7,134 of the additional cases occurred within the period of October 1 to 14.

“The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were NCR (1,450 or 20%), Region 4-A (979 or 14%), and Region 3 (735 or 10%),” the health agency noted.

Meanwhile, the DOH also reported the recoveries of 5,317 additional patients and the deaths of 154 more individuals. Overall, 2,573,161 COVID-19 patients have already recovered and 40,221 have died.

The country has so far detected a total of 2,698,232 COVID cases since the pandemic started.

Of the active cases, 77.2 percent are mild, 10.6 percent are asymptomatic, 7.01 percent are moderate, 3.6 percent are severe, and 1.5 percent are critical cases.

On positivity rate, 14 percent of 51,358 individuals who were tested were found positive for coronavirus last Tuesday, the DOH said.

Sixty-five percent of intensive care unit beds, 51 percent of isolation beds and ward beds, and 48 percent of ventilators are currently being utilized.

Four testing laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System. The said labs contributed an average of 1.3 percent of samples tested and 1.2 percent of positive individuals in the last 14 days, according to DOH.

The health department also removed 58 duplicate entries, including 42 recoveries and two deaths, from the total case count, and reclassified 89 recoveries as deaths after final validation.
