COMELEC Extends Voter Registration Period May 2022 Election

COMELEC VOTER REGISTRATION – The Commission on Elections is resuming the voter registration period today, October 11, 2021 as part of the granted extension.

The Commission on Elections is gearing up for several months now for the upcoming 2022 Election which is less than ten months away now. It has set the voter registration period in September and the filing of candidacy in October.

The poll body set September 30, 2021 as the deadline for the

COMELEC

voter registration. After it, the filing of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for those who wanted to run for a position next election started. October 8, 2021 is the deadline of the filing of the COCs.

However, a few days before the deadline set for the voter registration, there were still long lines in areas designated for the voter registration. It prompted calls to the poll body to extend the voter registration period.

Initially, COMELEC said that it can grant a one-week extension but not a 30-day extension which was the common call. Meanwhile, it assured the public that it is listening to the people and will convene over the possible scenarios with all kinds of extension.

The House of Representatives and the Senate passed similar bills seeking a long extension of the COMELEC voter registration. Both bills passed the final reading.

The poll body agreed to extend the voter registration period from October 11 to October 30, 2021. Starting today, those who are qualified and want to vote for the May 2022 Election may register now.

With regards to the filing of candidacy period, it is now officially closed. What

awaits are possible substitutions in political parties. The poll body has laid out the process for it and it is only allowed until November 15, 2021.
