The team announced the signing on social media a month after Samonte formally bid goodbye to the lady Eagles.

“This is her next,” posted the Spikers. “Welcome to the Perlas Spikers. Your fire and passion will surely bring so much energy to the team.”

“Thank you for embarking on this volleyball journey with us. Your coaches and teammates are excited to work with you.”

Samonte was the UAAP Season 79 Rookie of the Year and won one title with the Lady Eagles in Season 81.

Perlas will be looking to improve from its difficult 1-8 campaign in the Open Conference where it struggled not only on the court but off of it as well.

The Spikers had a delayed arrival in the conference after members of the team tested positive for COVID-19 before the start of the tournament.

Samonte joins fellow Ateneo products Jem Ferrer, Jhoana Maraguinot, and Mich Morente.
