Customs Seized P6-Million Worth of Illegal Drugs Hidden Inside CCTV
The personnel of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized P6-million worth of alleged illegal drugs after it was discovered hidden inside a CCTV.
The BOC Port of Clark workers discovered more than P6 million in shabu disguised within four CCTV cameras that were intended to be delivered to New Zealand, according to a report. According to the BOC, they obtained information that packages reportedly containing illegal substances were being shipped to Auckland, New Zealand.
“CCTV Cameras and Video Recorders” was written on the packages. As a result, the abovementioned shipments were subjected to physical testing, based on the report of BOC.
Six packages containing suspected illegal substances were discovered on four CCTV cameras after a comprehensive search. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) analyzed the detected contraband right once and determined it to be Methamphetamine Hydrochloride or Shabu.
The BOC reportedly seized 1 kilogram of shabu worth an estimated P6,126,800. For violating Sections 118 (g), 119 (d), and 1113 par. f & l (3 & 4) of R.A. 10863, or better known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), relating to R.A. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, Port of Clark District Collector Alexandra Lumontad issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention on the said shipment.
Meanwhile, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and BOC-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) intercepted a package containing bed sheets and shoes that had been declared as such. The shipment was discovered to contain 1,783 tablets of ecstasy, a popular party drug, with an estimated street value of P3.031 million, according to BoC-NAIA.
The package was sent from Neuss, Germany, and was addressed to someone in Baguio City. The consignee was supposed to pick up the parcel from the Baguio Post Office, but he did not show up, according to NBI.
Authorities established a controlled delivery system to the specified address. After receiving the narcotics package on behalf of the consignee, the suspect was detained.
